Galatians 2:20 is one of the shortest summaries of the Christian life in the whole Bible. In a single verse, Paul tells us who we were, who we are now, and how we live each day.
Here is the verse:
"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."
Let us walk through it piece by piece.
"I have been crucified with Christ"
Paul is not talking about a feeling. He is talking about something that already happened. When Christ died on the cross, Paul's old life, the life lived for himself and ruled by sin, died with Him.
That is good news, not bad news. It means your old record does not get to define you anymore. What was nailed to the cross stays there. You do not have to go back and live under a life God has already put to death.
"It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me"
This is the exchange at the heart of the verse. Paul's life is no longer centered on himself. Christ now lives in him.
That does not mean Paul stopped being Paul. It means the power behind his life changed. The same Christ who died for him now lives in him, shaping what he wants, what he chooses, and how he treats people. The Christian life is not you trying harder to be good. It is Christ living His life in you.
"The life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith"
Paul still lived an ordinary life. He ate, worked, traveled, and faced hard days, just like we do. The difference was how he lived it: by faith in the Son of God.
Faith here is not wishful thinking. It is trust in a real Person. Day by day, we trust that what Christ did is enough, and we live out of that trust, in our jobs, our families, and our everyday choices.
"Who loved me and gave Himself for me"
Paul ends with something personal. He does not say Christ loved the world in general, though He did. He says Christ loved me and gave Himself for me.
That is the reason the whole verse works. Christ did not die for a crowd and hope you would feel included. He loved you by name, and He gave Himself for you. Everything else in the verse flows from that love.
What does this mean for your everyday life?
It means three things you can hold onto today.
First, your old life is over. You do not have to keep answering for a past that was crucified with Christ.
Second, you are not living this life alone. Christ lives in you, and His strength is available in ordinary moments, not just on good days.
Third, you can live by faith, not by performance. You do not earn God's love by getting everything right. You trust the One who loved you and gave Himself for you, and you let that trust shape how you live.
That is why we made the Galatians 2:20 design. It carries a verse people can ask about, and when someone asks what it means, you get to tell them about a life that is no longer centered on self, but on Christ living in us.
